Centred on the city of Dongola it was here that Torans 300 made their stand during the cataclysm. The City and the Kingdom only prevailed due to The Prophet's alliance with the dead. The cost of that victory is still being paid to this day. The only water source in the Kingdom is the undiluted Shadow as it pours from the mouth of the underworld at Kodor. This is plentiful but less than satisfying to the living. Makuria grows stunted crops on what little arable land it possesses. That the Kingdom is self sufficient at all is somewhat of a miracle, but there is never plenty, even when famine does not stalk the land. The main export from this famished land is its people. Though thought weakly by some, the Makuri are renowned as slingmen. The real prospect that life is a proving ground before an eternity in the underworld leaves the Makuri willing to take extreme risks to prove themselves. The Ancestor Cult predominates here much to the frustration of both the Pure Path and the Immaculates. The long-standing enmity between the kingdom and the Baryans means their state church is completely absent.
