The Serpent is a seasonal river and regularly floods in relation to rains in the far off Ashanti highlands. This leaks to a fertile flood plain around the river which supplies the populous cities of the Empire and the Satrapy of Alodia. The patron goddess of the River is known as the Merciful Lady. One of the most important in the area and a leading figure in the Baryan Pantheon.
