Alodia was originally a satellite state of the Baryan Empire until a dynastic depute saw it transferred to Realm control. The City is cosmopolitan with several competing religious groups, the Baryan State church, the Immaculates, the Purists and a local variant on the Cult of the Ancestors. The Kingdom is primarily agricultural, clinging to the River margins although 2 groups bear special mention.
Kessel - a mining town on the upstream border of the Serpent river, just below the Gorges of Shaitan. Its leadership claim a degree of autonomy from the rest of the kingdom and maintain the traditions of the old Plenary Republic operating as a Stad. The level of education in Kessel is slightly higher than is normal in the region and this has made it difficult for the Satrap to replace the intransigent workers whilst keeping the same level of productivity.
The other group are the Nomadic Kif who wander the Great Dune Sea, moving between the isolated oasis wells. The Kif are known for their bright blue eyes and are the primary source of the Spice Melange although they seem as ignorant as anyone else as to where the substance originates.
